At a 24 hour hospital such as OVH a laboratory facility is one of the central part of our operation . In our lab a range of tests can be performed by our Registered Veterinary Technicians. Electrolyte and Complete Blood Count Analysers Tests such as biochemistry profiles, complete blood counts, electrolyte panels, cytology smears, urinalysis, fecal assays, heartworm tests, fungal assays, Feline Leukemia, FIV, Giardia and many more are all performed here.
An in-house laboratory means that for many standard types of tests, results can usually be available to your veterinarian within hours. Some specialized tests cannot be performed on the premises and samples are couriered to outside laboratories. Your veterinarian or one of our animal health technicians will be able to give you an estimate of the time generally required before results become available.
Some examples of tests requiring outside laboratory examination would be; a biopsy (histopathology) sample; a culture swab to determine what type bacteria are present and which antibiotics are appropriate for it.
